Dear Medium, why are you punishing me for having 79 followers?
I recently received a disturbing and annoying email from Medium informing me that because I don’t have the magical 100 followers, I’m “at risk of being removed from the Partner Program.”
This email threat comes with a deadline of March 2, that’s four days away.
Seriously Medium? WTF? Is this how I’m being rewarded for my loyalty to this platform for the past few years?
Although I admit that I haven’t been highly active on Medium (much of it due to my super hectic position and that I’m a divorced woman raising four kids on my own), I have enjoyed the platform enough to pay the $50 membership every year but maybe it’s time to rethink that loyalty if this is how I’m going to be (mis)treated.
Another thought traversing my confused mind: Is Medium attempting to shame me for (only) having 79 followers? Is 79 not an acceptable number to the Medium moguls? Is this a vile act of Medium-shaming? I used to feel proud to have a few stories published on Medium that brought in about the total that I’ve contributed to Medium itself. The way I saw it, what I made through the Partner Program balanced out what I was willing to pay to be a member.
